Close on a thousand visitors packed Bernithan Court on a glorious Saturday 3rd July to see Larry Lamb open Llangarron Fete. Two young fans, Chloe Fletcher and Natasha McCormack, were picked from the crowd to present him with a cheque for £100 for his favourite charity Plan.

Plan is an international organisation which helps improve the lives of children in the poorest countries around the world. Larry, best known for his roles as Walford villain Archie Mitchell and Gavin’s dad in Gavin and Stacey, is currently sponsoring two young girls through school in Senegal.

Throughout the afternoon, Larry chatted to fans, posed for photographs and signed autographs. He also joined the crowd in hunting for bargains on the various stalls, playing the many games and watching the spectacular Paws for Thought Dog Display Team and children’s entertainer Jenny-Any-Dots. He was particularly captivated by Whitchurch School Choir, led by Keira Shortman, singing a medley of songs.

Larry’s verdict on the Fete was that he had “loved it all and thought everyone was lovely”. Over £5,500 was raised to help improve community facilities in Llangarron.

Photographs taken by Sam Hughes are now on display in the North Aisle of the church. Everyone is welcome to drop in to see them.
